How many women are encouraged to be the Queen of Wands? When we decide to be independent – marry late (if ever), make our own money, and go after what (and who) we want in a straightforward manner; people of both genders label us as aggressive and call us all kinds of nasty names. Both men and women seem to have a vested interest in forever dousing the fire in our hearts with water.
Growing up, I noticed that boys tend to be more outspoken and loud in classes. This gender difference gets more prominent as people get older. As an adult, I have met a huge variety of women. I’ve also met a lot of women who are dissatisfied with their lives. Usually the reason for that is that they haven’t gone for what they wanted or have just settled with what society expects of them.
In the tarot deck, the Empress is the great mother. As number three in the major arcana, she represents the Earth Mother – the archetype of old school femininity and fertility. She is that person who cares for, nurtures and emotionally provides for others.
A majority of my tarot clients are women. And they LOVED the way women are represented in the Wildwood Tarot deck. Firstly – there are loads of them. This is not the case in more traditional tarot decks where beyond the Empress, the High Priestess and the Queens – we women are nowhere to be found.
The Queen of Pentacles loves her family. She worries constantly about whether everything is going to be alright. In taking care of everyone else, she has forgotten that once upon a time she was a passionate woman with her own goals. Her own agenda. Her own dreams.
Society has a way of using career success and money to justify all kinds of nonsense. For ‘career success’ we do all kinds of permissible crimes. We neglect our kids, our health, our sense of well-being… and even ourselves. We do it to succeed. But are we actually successful?
Success is not success unless it fits your definition of success. When you succeed on someone else’s terms by playing someone else’s rules – you ultimately feel empty. And no amount of money is going to make you feel better.
He is the provider and protector. People respect him for he leads with great wisdom that comes from knowledge and experience. Although he is a head over heart type of person – he understands the emotions of people well enough to take them into consideration when making decisions. He is someone who commands respect through mutual understanding whilst always staying at the top of his game.
