Ten of Swords: How Can You Mend a Broken Heart

It’s only the people you love who have the power to truly hurt you. Who have the power to do the unspeakable to you and leave you for dead. This is beyond pain. This is annihilation of everything that you are. Everything you hold dear. Everything that is sacred to you. This is death by fire by those who are closest and dearest to you. This is destruction at its cruelest and most unimaginable.

It is betrayal. Humiliation. Disgrace. Indignation. Self-righteous rage. It is all those very very difficult emotions that even the bravest amongst us find hard to face with dignity.

Oh yes. That’s the Ten of Swords. In my opinion it’s the scariest card in the tarot deck. Every time this card shows up in a reading, the reaction I get is always as extreme as the image. But hold up…Let’s stop to really think about it. When we annihilate everything that is – we finally arrive at the dawn that is slowly emerging in the distance.

Yes – the emotions were strong. Yes – they were heavy. This person you loved wholeheartedly has killed everything you cared about and left you for dead. I wouldn’t wish these emotions or this situation on anybody. But it happens. It’s happened to me. And I don’t know how I found it in me to get up and live again. But I did it. And I’m sure many of you have as well.

The Ten of Swords card – as scary as it looks, feels and seems – actually speaks of the final ordeal. After this incident, there is no going back. It is over. OVER.

Unfortunately, you are never the same again, no matter how hard you try. And no – you cannot forget it, no matter how much you want to. You cannot even bring yourself to talk to this person. In fact, you want to leave them as dead as they left you.

Nevertheless, I’m old enough and mature enough to tell you that revenge solves nothing. But life is offering you something better. A clean slate.

Welcome to Ground Zero. Pick yourself up. Get your act together. Take it one day at a time. Be glad for the emptiness that is. You can build whatever you want on Ground Zero. Let the one who hurt you wallow in the unspoken shame that will eat him or her up inside.

You know as well as I do that the dawn is finally here. Embrace it. You’ve earned it more than anyone else. And when the time is right, give yourself the permission to trust again. You’ve faced death by fire and lived to tell the tale. From here there’s only one place to go – and that’s up.

Pick yourself up from the ground where you don’t belong. Life is waiting for your grand return.
